CHALLENGE TO THE EDITORS OF DENVER POST

Re: “UN: population will reach 7 billion in 2012” DP March 12, 2009
The Denver Post, the new and ‘only’ major newspaper voice of the Rocky Mountain West printed a sobering piece on the back pages concerning the human race spinning toward 10.2 billion in 40 years. When you read it, the Post gives no emphasis about ramifications. Like, “No big deal!”
Noted in the article, “Nine nations are expected to account for half the projected increase: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, USA, Ethiopia, Congo, Tanzania, China and Bangladesh. According to the study, the largest numbers of ‘migrants’ [economic and environmental refugees], will head to the USA.”
Note that third world countries add 77 million people annually and they flood into first world countries for their survival. But when they do, they overload host countries with sheer numbers, poverty, diseases and language conflicts.
For those without a clue, Bangladesh features a population of 144 million people in a landmass just about the same as Colorado. Fancy that! As can be imagined, they flee to countries like the USA.
Those immigrants expect to add 100 million to the USA in 30 years!
Colorado expects an added five to six million people by 2050, added because of unchecked, endless and relentless immigration.
Anybody out there understand that Colorado does not possess the resources, water or ability to support another six million people? Any understanding of the environmental, quality of life and a dozen other ramifications?
Is there one ‘mind’, leader or college graduate in the hierarchy of the Denver Post that understands this dilemma? If one editor of the Denver Post understands this horrific issue, I challenge you and the paper to run a series on Colorado’s growing hyper-population crisis. Come on Dean, Vince, Barbara, Dan, Harsanyi, Alicia, Chuck and others! Get off your lethargic laurels and address this monster. How much of a monster?

Please investigate and write a series on the overwhelming consequences of continued population growth in Colorado. How will we deal with an added six million? What about water shortages? Energy crisis? What about gridlock on I-70 into the mountains? How about air pollution? What about quality of life being degraded? Please interview the included experts addressing this vital issue.
