Letter from a Juror

Editor US~Observer,

I just finished reading the story by Edward Snook in reference to Jim and Pam Moran’s acquittal found here.

I strongly agree with his characterizations of the IRS employees at the trial. I was a member of the jury during the 2nd trial that acquitted the Moran’s. It was a hard verdict to reach as some jurists acted as though an indictment proves their must be some guilt.

However the mountain of evidence the gov’t provided was so weak that a week into the trial I was ashamed of my government for bringing these charges against these good people. The smirking looks from Special Agent Michelle Hagemann in the courtroom were the icing on the cake. She appeared to take special pleasure every time a witness said something that potentially painted the Moran’s in a negative light. She sat immediately in front of the jury at the table for the gov’t. I don’t think she ever noticed that 12 sets of eyes were watching her every petty facial expression. Too bad she wasn’t in the room when the judge read all the not guilty verdicts. The gov’t attorney requested a poll of the jury as he was in disbelief of the result.

This case should have never seen a courtroom in my opinion. Almost every gov’t witness sounded like a defense witness when the defense was done cross examining them.

Anyhow, great story. I just wanted to pass along some of my perspective from the jury box.

Thank you,

Heath Williams

Editor’s Note: We appreciate the compliments Heath and we appreciate even more, Americans who have a conscience and a brain – very much lacking in our country today. The Moran’s Lawyer Michael Minns and his daughter Rain Minns deserve a huge “pat on the back” and our reporter Tedd Peck who testified at trial deserves one as well. You and the other jurors should sleep well at night and you should be extremely proud of providing justice in a system that promotes just the opposite.

Debt of Gratitude
Bakery Re-Opened

Dear Observer,

We owe you a debt of gratitude that money can not repay. Our parents were nearly broke from paying the attorneys when we saw your ad. In the beginning of the city’s attack on them we all thought the zoning demand was just a big mistake. We went to an attorney here in LA and he agreed with us. We paid him his $3,000.00 retainer, confident that he would resolve the matter like he said he would. I was handling everything for my parents as you know. When the first attorney was fired, we were out over $20,000.00 and we were no better off than we were in the beginning of our mess. Our second and third attorneys cost us over $20,000.00. They gave us the same lies as the first and when the third one kept asking for more money I found your ad. Thank God! After working with Edward Snook for only four months our small bakery is re-opened and my parents have smiles again for the first time in over 4 years. I sincerely wish I had found you guys sooner. I hope people appreciate you and that they show it. My Mother firmly believes that you have psychic powers. You told us in your ad exactly what would happen, did happen to us, when we went to the attorneys. You saved our business. If there is anything we can do for you don’t hesitate to call. Every member of my family wish you the very best and we all thank you from the depths of our hearts. Keep up your fine work and we will continue to pray for our dangerous and abusive government as Mr. Snook instructed.

Please send us the papers each month. I have enclosed a check for the first three months. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Seeking a GREAT Attorney

Dear U.S. Observer,

I appreciate the depth of your articles and your keen ability to view issues from a different perspective... Great Job!!

Several past articles were written by an Attorney in the Houston area, and I would appreciate details regarding how I may get in contact with him. I am interested in speaking with him regarding possible representation. Actually, it would be on-behalf of my fiance', but she had requested that I locate an attorney willing to take on the Good Ol' Boy attorney representing the oil & gas industry. I admire his focus and spirit, and would appreciate any information regarding how I might be able to contact him.

Thank You,

Kelly Crank

The Great Bailout

To the Editor:

I liked much of what Mr. Minns has said about the current rescue\bailout, however, we don't all necessarily have the luxury to ignore a problem that our government helped create. In addition, Americans were taken completely by surprise when Congress failed to prepare us or warn us of the impending doom. Congress is the principle reason the failure occurred. The "Community Investment Act" of 1995 forced FannieMAE and FreddieMAC to expand the criteria for loan qualifications (no more redlining). Instead of opening up investments and mortgage loans to a larger body of qualified applicants, they handed out money to all who applied. This government intervention into a functioning market along with the "Mark to market" accounting requirements has resulted in devaluation of billions of dollars of dubious securities. Banks now have to sequester more money to cover these "marked down" securities. That results in less money for borrowers.

I know, I know, we shouldn't be borrowing so much money and living beyond our means. The unintended consequences of a dried-up money well, however, is that small business cannot find the money to expand, or to even make day to day expenses. In an ideal world, business should have enough assets to continue to operate without borrowing, but who would want to live in a world where there is no risk? Risk and reward is why we have such a vibrant and productive entrepreneurial small business community that employs a majority of Americans.

I agree that the government bill is a huge step towards socialism, and don't like it any better than Mr. Minns. However, an analogy in support of the bailout is, if you were bitten by a Rabid dog, you would take multiple painful injections through your belly button. There is a possibility that you may not contract Rabies, or if you do you may survive the disease. If you do survive, however, you may never be the same again and suffer painful consequences for many years to come. That is why a rescue\bailout (like painful Rabies shots) is required to ensure that the entire population doesn't suffer for the reckless, greedy, irresponsible acts of a few. It also provides us with the wake up call we never got, so we can adjust our style of life. I am thankful and grateful for the bailout, because I strongly believe that a real reckoning is coming and we have bought some time to prepare for the more precipitous fall to come.

Respectfully,

Brian Imel

Reply from Houston, Texas Lawyer Michael Minns:

Brian Imel writes a very good letter and I agree with him... I have not given solutions in the article.

That wasn't the purpose of the article. Before people will listen to solutions...they have to understand there is a problem.

If I wrote an article about solutions without identifying the problem...no one would read it. I thank Brian for his letter, and apologize that I can't address his concerns... he's just ahead of the crowd. If everyone was caught up to him I'd address solutions. One solution was Ron Paul - That solution is no longer available.

Identity Theft

Dear Editor,

I need some help with a matter that has affected my life in the worst way. Four years ago I was in the process of buying a new home when I received a call from my bank stating that my credit score was 250 points lower from the first time we checked my credit. I asked them to send me the credit report so I could go over it. This is when I found out that my identity was stolen! This is the worst feeling I have ever felt in my life! This creep had plastic surgery, bought a car, applied and used credit cards, stole all of my money out of my bank account, not to mention he used my info in a Vegas casino to receive a credit! I can't even use a bank account to put my money in, maybe that's a good thing since the government is taking money out whenever they please. I have been pulling my hair out every month since trying to get this crap off my credit report. Working with creditors is like trying to catch a fart in a wind storm; it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do! They think I am a crook since I am asking them to remove all of these bogus accounts off my credit report. Please help me open some doors and rattle some heads! This has been such a strain on my life and I need the US~Observer to help me!

Please help!

State Senator John Carona Yard Sign Spam

Dear Editor;

(November 3, 2008 2:06pm) I caught a couple of campaign workers putting Carona yard signs on public property along Mocking bird lane about 20 minutes ago. This, of course, is illegal (not to mention unsightly). (Carona is the worst offender with yard signs on public property this election cycle.) I followed them and had a chat with them when they stopped at Mockingbird @ Abrams. They weren't very friendly, and insisted they could put yard signs wherever they wanted, as long as they were a certain distance from the road. (Wrong.)

They were driving a white Toyata Tundra pickup ... Here's a pic of them during our conversation. Like I said, not very friendly. Please shame these guys so it doesn't happen in the future.
